- Cellular-pathway research examines the processes a cell uses to maintain itself: senescence, autophagy, mitochondrial function, protein turnover, and the signalling that coordinates them. It is one of the most active areas of basic cell biology.
Most of this literature is in vitro, with model organisms used where a longer observation window is needed. Cell-culture findings describe cell culture. The models are chosen precisely because they are simple enough to measure.
